India ranks 81st in Global Talent Competitiveness Index

rd January 2018. India improved its position some notches from 92nd in 2017 to 81st this year. But it still lags behind amongst its BRICS counterparts. The index saw high-income countries securing all top spots with Switzerland topping the list. The index ranks world economies on their capacity to attract, develop and retain talent pool in their country.

Key Points of Global Talent Competitiveness Index:

  • This year’s index was themed upon “Diversity for ”
  • The top five spots were bagged by Switzerland followed by Singapore, USA, Norway, and European countries topped the chart with 15 out of the top 25 countries from Europe.
  • The Global City Talent Competitiveness Index is also published as part of it. Zurich topped this list followed by Stockholm, Oslo, Copenhagen.
India had  topped the International Migration Report 2017 published by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.

Indian Rank in Global Talent Competitiveness Index:

  • India ranked 89th in 2016, slipping to 92nd in 2017 and has finally improved its position to 81st in 2018.
  • The report states that India is facing a serious risk of worsening brain drain, as is also hinted through its high emigration levels.
  • India had also topped the International Migration Report 2017 published by the United Nations Department of Economic and Social Affairs.
  • All BRICS nations stand ahead of India in the index. China tops it at 43rd, Russia at 53rd, South Africa at 63rd and Brazil at 73rd

Global Talent Competitiveness Index:

  • It is the 5th edition of the index which was first published in 2013. Since then it ranks 119 economies of the world on their ability to compete for talent.
  • It is based on research conducted by INSEAD Business School in partnership with Adecco group and Tata Communications.
