Rise of Kingdom of Magadha According to the Puranas, Brihadratha was the founder of the oldest dynasty of Magadha. Its capital was Girivraj. Jarasand, his son was of great caliber, and was a prince of this lineage.

Bimbisar : The First Ruler of Magadha

According to Buddhist texts, the first ruler of Magadha was Bimbisar. They sat on the throne of Magadha in 544 BC. Bimbisar was the founder of hryank vansh. He created royal palaces and made them the capital. He married “Chellna” the daughter of “chetak” the king of Licchvi and “shema” who was princess of madan dynasty and mahakoshla who was the sister of kaushal king. Famous doctor ‘Jivaksh’ was the chief medical practitioner in the court of Bimbisar.
The last king of Haryank Dynasty was Naagdashak.

  • Bimbisar was killed by his son Ajatshatru in 493 BC and then after he succedded Bimbisar as king.
  • Initially Ajatshatru was believer of Jain religion , later he become a devotee of budhhism.
Udayin founded Patliputra.
  • Udayin was a follower of Jainism.
  • In Ajatshatru’s tenure 483 bc was the year when first buddhh music meeting was held in the royal palace at saptaparni caves.
  • Udayin Ajaatshatru’s son killed him 461bc and sat on the throne succeeding his father.
