Plateau : Definition and Types
On land, the land rose upwards which is leveled at the up and the top is wide, is called a Plateau. The slopes of Plateau are quite intense. In general, the average height of plateau is 300 to 1000 meters.

Types of Plateau:
According to the geographical location, plateau consists of 3 types which are as follows:
The Intermontane Plateaus – Plateau located between high mountain ranges. Examples – Tibetan Plateau.
The Piedmont Plateaus– Plateau located in the foothills of the mountains. Example – Patagonia Plateau of South America
The Continental Plateaus– It is formed by rising upwards of a wide area of land and expanding volcano lava in a large area. Examples – Peninsular Plateau of India, Plateau of Arabia etc.
